The Waste Policy Center is an environmental consulting, policy, and communications organization based in Leesburg, Virginia. Dr. J. Winston Porter is the president of the WPC. The primary activities of the WPC are the following:
Management and Environmental Consulting
Dr. Porter, assisted by staff and other consultants as necessary, provides consulting and "guest manager" services to both business and governmental clients in such areas as solid and hazardous waste management, waste site remediation, litter control, and agricultural biotechnology. Recent clients have included Brookhaven and Idaho National Laboratories, Keep America Beautiful, Inc., the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the Edison Electric Institute.Focused Problem Solving
A particular specialty of Dr. Porter is the chairing of meetings in which the aim is to make major progress on a management or technical problem in a short time period. His approach is much more focused and results-oriented than that of a facilitator.Focused Problem SolvingCommunications Activities
Dr. Porter is a frequent guest speaker on a wide variety of topics. In addition, he writes op-ed pieces for major newspapers, and is often featured on major media outlets. For example, he has recently appeared on CNN, ABC World News Tonight, and National Public Radio.Big League Communications
As an adjunct to his communications activities Dr. Porter also provides a specialized consulting service called Big League Communications, in which he provides intensive training to individuals who will be providing testimony to legislative bodies, giving major speeches or presentations, or being interviewed by TV, radio, or print media.Publications
The WPC has available a wide variety of reports and booklets for sale. These range from recycling and other reports to vest-pocket booklets called Trash Facts and Biotech Facts.
